Dengue Fever in Thailand

According to the Thai Ministry of Public Health, Bureau of Vector-borne Disease, a total of 41 274 dengue fever cases, including 44 deaths were reported in Thailand between 1 Jan and 10 Sep 2012. The 5 provinces with the highest attack rates (per 100 000 population) of dengue virus infection were Krabi 316.25), Rayong (299.14), Chanthaburi (179.17), Phangnga (145.04) and Chachoengsao (133.93).

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, by covering up with clothing, the use of bite avoidance measures such as repellent and bed nets is advised. Elimination of breeding sites around hotel rooms/houses is advised for longer term stays.
