Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever in Pakistan

08 October 2012

A 2nd case of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) from Rawalpindi was confirmed by the National Institute of Health on Wednesday (3 Feb 2012). This year, 38 confirmed cases of CCHF have been reported from across the country. Out of these 38 cases, 14 deaths have been reported so far.

Advice for Travellers

CCHF is a low risk for the average traveller; it is spread by infected ticks from a reservoir usually in animals such as cattle, sheep and goats. Avoidance of tick bites is essential in risk areas.
