An outbreak of cholera has been reported in villages surrounding Sadalaga in Karnataka State in southern India. More than 170 cases and 4 deaths have been recorded. The source of the outbreak is thought to be contaminated water that all cases had consumed.
Local government officials are in the affected villages to assess standards of hygiene and sanitation.
Advice for Travellers
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
