A large number of cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis have been reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province where cases have been widespread in various areas. The worst affected districts are; Kohat, Korak and Hangu where hundreds of cases have been reported.
Advice for Travellers
Travellers should take steps to avoid sandfly bites by the use of repellents, clothing, nets etc. Sandflies fly low and bite mainly from dusk to dawn; particular care should be taken to protect ankles and legs when out of doors in the evening.
