An outbreak of cholera has been reported from Luapula province. Deaths have been confirmed in Nchelenge and Mwense Districts. Laboratory samples tested positive for cholera on 30 December 2012, and health officials have put in place measures to prevent further spread of infection including medicines for treatment.
Advice for Travellers
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
