Cholera in Angola

07 January 2013

An outbreak of cholera has been reported from Cunene province in the south of the country. Between 20-27 December 2012, 69 cholera cases were diagnosed at Cahama Municipal Hospital. Three cholera deaths have been reported from Ondjiva, the administrative capital of the province. Further cases are expected following rains in the region.

Advice for Travellers

Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
