Yellow Fever in Bolivia

The Departmental Health Services have reported a case of yellow fever virus infection in an individual from Oruro who had visited the Amazon Basin area of Cochabamba department in central Bolivia. Health officials are advising the local population of Cochabamba department to be vaccinated against yellow fever before travelling to low lying, tropical areas in the Amazon Basin.

Cochabamba department is situated in the Andes but includes low lying valleys and the Amazon Basin to the east.

Advice for Travellers

There is a risk of yellow fever in certain areas east of the Andes in Bolivia and vaccination is advised for travellers going to these parts (unless contraindicated). In addition, vaccination might be required for certificate purposes. Travellers should also take steps to avoid mosquito bites.
