An article recently published in Eurosurveillance reported on an increase in hepatitis A infections in tourists from several European countries returning from Egypt from November 2012 to March 2013.
As of 24 April, 80 hepatitis A cases in travellers with symptom onset after 1 November 2012 visiting different areas in Egypt have been reported. Four cases from Norway, six cases from the Netherlands and five cases from England share an identical hepatitis A viral RNA sequence.

Advice for Travellers
Immunisation against hepatitis A infection is usually recommended for all travellers to Egypt (unless contraindicated). Travellers should also take precautions with food, water and personal hygiene.
