Chikungunya Virus in Singapore

An increase in chikungunya virus infections has been reported in Singapore in 2013. On average over the previous three years, between 2-6 cases of chikungunya virus infections were reported per year. In 2013, cases have risen sharply to 100 thus far.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, by covering up with clothing, the use of bite avoidance measures such as repellent and bed nets is advised. Elimination of breeding sites around hotel rooms/houses is advised for longer term stays.
