Dengue Fever in United States (Florida)

26 August 2013

Health officials have issued an alert after four cases of dengue fever were confirmed in the Treasure Coast area of Florida. Three cases were identified this week in Martin County with a fourth confirmed nearby in St. Lucie County.

It is considered likely that the cases were infected by mosquitoes in one Jensen Beach neighborhood. This area has been sprayed with insecticide; during the course of  spraying, more than 200 properties were found to have mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever.
