The Health Department of Western Australia has predicted an increase in Ross River Virus (RRV) infections this spring. The latest figures show more than double the average number of infections in the past month.
The Health Department has recorded 31 cases of RRV in the four weeks prior to 19 August 2013, in residents of Perth, Western Australia. Eight further cases of RRV were reported from outside the Perth area.
Advice for Travellers
Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, by 'covering up' and the use of bite avoidance measures are recommended. Those at increased risk include babies, young children, tourists and those living or camping near swamp and river systems during the evening and night.
