An outbreak of cholera has been reported in Kurram Agency, in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan. Central parts of the agency (Dhand and Kudiad Khel) are the worst affected and 320 suspected cases have been recorded since 12 August 2013. Around 100 individuals have required treatment in hospital.
Advice for Travellers
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
