The Ministry of Health for Iran has reported 64 cases of cholera in the country. The cases have been reported from Sistan and Baluchestan Province in southeastern Iran, bordering both Afghanistan and Pakistan and in Kerman Province which lies west of both provinces.
The cases are all illegal migrants from bordering countries to the east. One of the cholera cases has died as a result, however, the condition of the others is satisfactory. In 2012, 15 cases of cholera were recorded in Iran.
Advice for Travellers
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
