Cholera in Sierra Leone

11 September 2013

An outbreak of cholera in Grafton old camp in the Western Rural District of Freetown has been reported by the media.

The camp is overcrowded, lacks adequate toilet facilities and personal hygiene among camp dwellers is poor. Women and children are the most severely affected by the outbreak. Camp personnel are calling on humanitarian organizations and other stakeholders to help them fight the outbreak. Plans are underway to raise awareness among inhabitants of the camp on sanitation issues.
