Since the beginning of 2013, 3 human cases of rabies have been recorded in the Donetsk, Kharkiv and Kyiv regions of Ukraine. Annually in Ukraine, between 120 000 to 140 000 individuals seek medical attention for animal bites, of those, 60% are referred for rabies post-exposure treatment.
Advice for Travellers
Ukraine is considered a high risk destination by WHO. Rabies pre-exposure vaccine is available for those considered to be at risk. Travellers should avoid animal contact and report any bites for medical assessment.
