Avian Influenza (Human) in Cambodia

The Ministry of Health for Cambodia has reportedĀ a new confirmed human case of avian influenza (H5N1) virus infection. This is the 21st case in 2013, and the 42nd H5N1 virus infection recorded in Cambodia. Of the 42 confirmed cases, 31 were children under 14, and 25 of the 42 were female.

The new case, is an 8-year-old girl from Baray district in Kampong Thom province who had contact with sick poultry. The patient was admitted to hospital on 11 October 2013, with fever, cough, vomiting, and dyspnoea. Tamiflu was administered and she is currently in a stable condition.
