The outbreak of yellow fever in Sudan is ongoing. As of 13 November 2013, 36 suspected cases of yellow fever were recorded in West and South Kordofan. At least ten localities are affected and ten deaths from yellow fever have been recorded.
A vaccination campaign has been implemented in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan and in Elreef Alshargi, Lagawa and Keilak.
New cases were recorded in the localities of Talodi, Abu Gibaiha, Habila, Ghadir, Kadugli , Altadamon and Elreef Alshargi in the government-controlled areas of South Kordofan, and Lagawa, Kailak, and Almuglad in West Kordofan.
The Federal Minister of Health reported 20 confirmed cases of yellow fever in three South Kordofan localities.
The communicable disease surveillance system has been strengthened in the states of White Nile, Gezira, Kassala, Gedarif and Khartoum.

Advice for Travellers
There is a risk of yellow fever in areas south of the Sahara Desert and vaccination is advised for travellers to these parts (unless contraindicated). There is no risk in the city of Khartoum. Travellers should also take steps to avoid mosquito bites.
