There has also been a reduction in the number of deaths from malaria during this time period. In 2012, there were 37 deaths and in 2013, 8 deaths; a reduction of 78%

In 2012, an impregnated bed net programme was introduced to reduce the number of malaria cases. The authorities distributed 2.2 million insecticide-impregnated mosquito nets to the most vulnerable groups at risk from malaria.

Advice to Travellers

Malaria risk due to malignant (P.falciparum) and benign (P.vivax) is present throughout the year in all forested, rural areas including coastal areas except Phnom Penh and close to Tonle Sap. The risk in Angkor Wat is negligible.
