Yellow Fever in Peru

The Ministry of Health for Peru has published an epidemiological bulletin giving details of the number of cases of yellow fever in the country for 2013 (up to EW 46). A total of 31 cases were recorded and of those, 8 were fatal.

All of the cases occurred in Amazonian Peru with the region of San Martin reporting the highest number of cases (11). Other regions reporting cases include: Ayacucho (2), Cusco (1), Huanuco (1), Junin (7), Loreto (1), Madre de Dios (3), Pasco (1), Puno (1) and Ucayali (3).

Advice for Travellers

Yellow fever vaccination is recommended for travellers visiting Amazonian regions of Peru. Travellers should also be advised to take steps to avoid mosquito bites.
