Cholera in Dominican Republic (Update)

Cholera has not yet been eradicated from the Dominican Republic, a small number of cases continue to be reported. During epidemiological week 13, a total of 6 suspected cases were reported countrywide. The total number of cases for 2014, stands at 122 with 3 deaths.

Advice for Travellers

Cholera is considered a low risk for travellers who have access to safe drinking water and who maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and food safety.

Cholera vaccine is available for those mixing closely with the local population who cannot ensure safe water/food and a good standard of personal hygiene.
