Chikungunya Virus Infection in Antigua and Barbuda

The Medical Officer of Health for Antigua and Barbuda has reported the first case of chikunguya virus infection on the island. The case is a man in his sixties who works in the capital, St John's. Laboratory results are awaited for four other suspected cases.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, by covering up with clothing, the use of bite avoidance measures such as repellent and bed nets is advised. Elimination of breeding sites around hotel rooms/houses is advised for longer term stays.
