The Ministry of Health for Iran has reported two confirmed cases of MERS-CoV infection. The two cases are from the same family in Kerman province in southeast Iran and two other members of the family are suspected cases of MERS-CoV infection. One of the cases is in a critical condition in hospital. The report does not mention any travel history to Saudi Arabia or contact with a known case.
This is a media report and official confirmation from WHO is awaited.

The current Rapid Risk Assessment by ECDC is unchanged in that, the risk of MERS-CoV infection for Europeans visiting or residing in the region is low, and secondary transmission in the EU from imported cases is low.
