Taiwan's Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has reported the 9th case of Japanese encephalitis (JE) in 2014.
Of the 9 confirmed cases, all are aged over 40 years. Cases have been located across the country: Changhua County (2) in central Taiwan and Chiayi (2) and Tainan (2) cities in the south, Taichung city (1), Kaohsiung City (1) and Pingtung County (1).
The most recent case is a 66-year-old woman from Pingtung County, who is reportedly gradually recovering in hospital.

Japanese ecephalitis vaccine is recommended for certain travellers considered to be at risk; particularly during the high risk season. Travellers should aslo take steps to avoid mosquito bites.
