A total of 5966 cases of malaria have been recorded in Omaheke, Kunene, Erongo, Hardap and Karas regions between January and March in 2014.
The Minister of Health is particularly concerned that cases have been recorded in the regions of Omaheke and Kunene where malaria had previously been eliminated.
The worst affected area is Andara district with 3163 cases followed by Rundu District 800 cases, Nyangana 791 cases and Katima Mulilo with 455.
In 2013, a total of 4733 malaria cases were reported nationally; a reduction of more that 98% when compared to 2001 when 583 267 cases were reported.
