Measles is an ongoing problem in Somalia and the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund has provided funds for an emergency campaign to immunise around 520 000 under 5-years-of-age, in the worst affected areas of Banadir, Lower Juba and Puntland.
Between Jan-Jun 2014, around 4000 suspected measles cases were reported, which is more than twice the number reported during the same time period of 2013.

It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of MMR at 12-15 months of age and again pre-school around 3 years 6 months, while unimmunised adults who have not had the disease themselves may consider vaccination if thought to be at risk. Two doses of MMR vaccine are required to give adequate protection.
