Five cases of cholera have been reported from the infectious disease hospital in Kathmandu. The cases were being treated for acute gastroenteritis, however, stool samples tested positive for Vibrio cholerae, 01 serotype Ogawa. It has been two years sinceĀ V.cholerae has been reported in Kathmandu.
The possible source of infection has not been mentioned in this report.
Travellers should always maintain a high standard of food, water and personal hygiene whilst in Nepal.
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera.
