West Nile Fever in Israel

The Health Ministry has reported three confirmed cases of West Nile virus in Israel during July 2014. Prior to July, the total number of suspected cases of West Nile fever was 15, of those, two have been confirmed.

The cases occurred through a region from the Haifa and Afula area in the north of the country to the Ashkelon region in the south. In the central Gush Dan coastal region, 6 patients suffering from the virus have been reported.

In 2013, 71 cases of the virus were reported in Israel, with four fatalities.

Travellers should be aware of the risk of WNF and take steps to avoid mosquito bites.
