A total of 17 cases (including 4 deaths) of Japanese encephalitis (JE) cases have been reported nationwide in Malaysia. Of those, 8 were reported in Sarawak, 4 in Sabah, 3 in Penang and one each in Selangor and Kelantan.
Japanese encephalitis is transmitted all year round in Malaysia and vaccine is available for travellers considered to be at risk. Bite avoidance measures are also recommended.
