Advice for Travellers

Travellers should be made aware that tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) can also be transmitted by consuming raw milk from goats infected by the virus as well as being bitten by infected ticks. Consumption of unpasteurised milk and milk products should be avoided at all times.

TBE vaccine is available for those visiting risk areas during the spring/summer months. Travellers to woodland areas should also take steps to avoid tick bites.
