Heightened Volcanic Activity in Iceland

The Icelandic Met Office is reporting heightened volcanic activity with increased potential of eruption in the area around Bárðarbunga volcano on Vatnajökull glacier in the east of Iceland. Consequently, the area immediately north of Vatnajökull has been evacuated and a number of roads have been closed.

Advice for Travellers

Travellers to Iceland should monitor for updates on the Icelandic Met Office and Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration websites, and follow the advice of local authorities.
