Chikunguyna virus infection was first confirmed in the US Virgin Islands in May 2014, the case was imported by a traveller returning from Dominica. Further cases have continued to be reported and to date, 514 suspected cases have been reported on St. Thomas (41 confirmed or probable); 25 suspected cases have been reported on St. Croix (3 confirmed or probable) and 13 suspected cases reported on St. John (2 two confirmed or probable).
Fogging is being carried out to reduce the mosquito population. This is a media report.

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, by covering up with clothing, the use of bite avoidance measures such as repellent and bed nets is advised. Elimination of breeding sites around hotel rooms/houses is advised for longer term stays.
