As the chikungunya virus outbreak in the Caribbean and Americas continues, the number of cases imported into the United States continues. As of 16 September 2014, a total of 1052 cases have been reported, of those, 1043 are travel associated. Nine cases of chikungunya virus infection have been locally acquired; they have all been reported from the state of Florida.
New York state has recorded the highest number of imported cases (252) which equals 24% of the national total.
The states of Alaska, Vermont, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and Utah have not reported any chikungunya cases thus far.
The majority (98%) of imported cases are associated with travel to the Caribbean and Americas.
