Hepatitis A in Indonesia

The media has reported on an outbreak of hepatitis A in Selatan province, south Sulawesi. The outbreak was identified among high school pupils in Pangkep and 93 cases have been recorded thus far. Around 30 pupils are still receiving treatment in hospital. The Pangkep Health Agency has declared a health emergency in the regency. The source of the outbreak has not been identified.

Advice for Travellers

Hepatitis A vaccine is usually advised for all travellers visiting Indonesia. Travellers should also maintain a high standard of food safety and personal hygiene whilst in Indonesia.
