Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever in Pakistan

13 October 2014

Two cases of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) have been reported in the city of Karachi on the southern coast of Pakistan. Both cases; a 9-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man are in a critical condition in hospital.

Advice for Travellers

CCHF is a low risk for the average traveller; it is spread by infected ticks from a reservoir usually in animals such as cattle, sheep and goats. Avoidance of tick bites is essential in risk areas.
