An outbreak of cholera has been reported in southern Niger. Districts affected by the outbreak include; Bouza Tahoua, Madaoua, Madarounfa, Maradi and Tamaske. Almost 1000 affected individuals have received treatment for cholera and 20 related deaths have been recorded.
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
