Visceral Leishmaniasis in South Sudan

The media has reported on an increase in visceral leishmaniasis (also known as kala-azar) in the locality of Abu Karshola, South Kordofan state in South Sudan. The local community has complained to the health authorities about the increased number of sandflies (the vector) in the area following the onset of the rainy season. Reportedly, more than 1000 individualsĀ in the area have been affected.
