The Vanuatu government is undertaking a mass immunisation campaign against measles, assisted by UNICEF, WHO and AusAID.
The immunisation campaign will target around 17 000 children under the age of 5 years. This month children in Port Vila, Luganville and Lenakel will receive measles vaccine. The campaign has been prompted by a recent measles outbreak.
Measles vaccine coverage is around 50% in Vanuatu.

It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of MMR at 12-15 months of age and again pre-school around 3 years 6 months, while unimmunised adults who have not had the disease themselves may consider vaccination if thought to be at risk. Two doses of MMR vaccine are required to give adequate protection.
