The media has reported on 37 cases of dengue fever in Zhongshan City, Guangdong province in the south of the country.
All 37 cases were identified in 5 localities of the city's Huangpu township. Provincial health officials predict more cases as none of the 37 cases has a history of travel and therefore the dengue virus has not been imported in this instance.
The wet weather has been blamed for an increase in the mosquito population.
