Eighteen cases of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) have been reported in Vologda Oblast, northwestern Russia. Cases have been reported from the districts of Sokolsky, Vozhega and Vytegorsky and areas of Verhovazhskom, Gryazovets and Kharovsk. A further 26 suspected TBE cases are under investigation.
Advice for Travellers
TBE vaccine is available for those visiting risk areas during the spring/summer months. Travellers to woodland areas should also take steps to avoid tick bites.
