Cholera in Domincan Republic (Update)

Between 3 January - 6 February 2015, 99 suspected cholera cases were recorded in Dominican Republic. This is more than twice the number reported during the same time period of 2014. The majority of the suspected cases in 2015, were identified in National District, Pedernales, Santiago and Santo Domingo.

Advice for Travellers

Cholera is considered a very low risk for travellers to Dominican Republic who have access to safe drinking water and who maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and food safety.

Cholera vaccine is available for those mixing closely with the local population who cannot ensure safe water/food and a good standard of personal hygiene.
