There has been an increase in the number of cholera cases in the current outbreak in Malawi. In the last week 78 new cases were reported. The outbreak began eight weeks ago following heavy rains and flooding. The total number of cases now stands at 329, of those, 157 were identified in the past two weeks.
The worst affected districts continue to be Chikwawa and Nsanje with 47 and 17 new cases. Blantyre has reported 10 new cases following one in the week of 29 March 2015.

Cholera is a low risk for most travellers.
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
