Dengue Fever in Brazil (Update)

Dengue fever has been an ongoing problem for Brazil. According to a media report, the Ministry of Health considers that the peak of transmission for the current dengue season has passed. Nationally, a total of 846 000 suspected cases have been recorded, of those, 99 920 cases have been confirmed.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
