Measles in France (Alsace) (Update)

The outbreak of measles in Haut-Rhin province in the French territory of Alsace in the northeast of the country is ongoing.

Since April 2015, a total of 169 cases have been reported, of those, 151 were identified in Upper Rhine; most cases are located in and around Logelbach, Colmer and Ribeauville. At present, 30 individuals in Alsace are infected; the outbreak will not be declared over until 21 days have passed since the last case was identified.

Advice for Travellers

It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of MMR at 12-15 months of age and again pre-school around 3 years 6 months. Unimmunised adults who have not had the disease themselves may consider vaccination if thought to be at risk. Two doses of MMR vaccine are required to give adequate protection.
