Avian Influenza (H5N6) (Human) in China

The National Health and Family Planning Commission has reported a confirmed, fatal human case of avian influenza A(H5N6). The case was a 37-year-old female from Yunnan province in southwest China. The patient became symptomatic on 6 July 2015, presenting with fever and productive cough, she was admitted to hospital on 9 July and died the following day.

As human cases of avian influenza (H7N9) are being reported in China, boundary control points have implemented disease prevention and control measures. Thermal imaging systems are in place for body temperature checks of inbound travellers. Suspected cases will be immediately referred to hospital for follow-up investigation

Advice for Travellers

Travellers experiencing severe flu like symptoms within 10 days of returning from China, should contact their GP and inform them of their recent travel to China.
