Dengue Virus Infection in Peru (Update)

Dengue fever continues to be reported from Peru. As of 26 June 2015, a total of 29 470 suspected cases have been reported nationally. Of those, 13 890 have been confirmed as dengue virus infection. A health emergency has been declared in Piura region where 24 dengue related deaths have been recorded.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
