Typhoid Fever in Syria

24 August 2015

An outbreak of typhoid fever has been reported by the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA). The outbreak has been identified among residents of the Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp. Six cases have been confirmed thus far although UNRWA expect further cases as conditions in the camp are poor.

Advice for Travellers

This outbreak is confined to the refugee camp at present and is a low risk for travellers. Typhoid vaccine would be recommended for relief/aid workers going to the camp.
