West Nile Virus Infection in Italy (Update)

In the past week, Italy has reported a further 4 cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) infection. This makes a total of 8 thus far in the 2015, WNV season (Jun-Nov). The new cases were reported in Cremona (1), Parma (1) and Reggio nell’Emilia (2); three provinces in the north of the country already affected this year.

Advice for Travellers

There is no vaccine or specific treatment for WNV. Infection is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito, therefore avoidance of mosquito bites is essential, by covering up and the use of bite avoidance measures.
