Dengue Fever in Dominican Republic

Dengue fever is an ongoing risk in Dominican Republic. During this dengue season a total of 3807 suspected cases have been reported. Between 2-8 August 2015, 235 suspected cases were reported.

The provinces worst affected include: Santo Domingo, National District, Juan Sanchez Ramirez, San Cristobal, La Vega, Duarte, Monsenor Nouel and Hermanas Mirabal.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
