Typhoid Fever in Syria (Update)

The typhoid outbreak identified among residents of the Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp is ongoing.  

The United Nations has requested access to the camp as further evidence of the typhoid outbreak has become available. As of 22 Sep 2015, the number of cases in the camp increased to 90 according to UNRWA [United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East], the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.

Advice for Travellers

This outbreak is confined to the refugee camp at present and is a low risk for travellers. Typhoid vaccine would be recommended for relief/aid workers going to the camp.
