Dengue fever is an ongoing problem in Brazil. As of 6 September 2015, a total of 1 416 179 suspected cases have been reported nationally. There have been 693 dengue related deaths recorded.
Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
Chickungunya and Zika virus are also currently circulating in Brazil therefore avoidance of mosquito bites is essential.
